This, I’m afraid is illogical and again looking through self-tinted lenses.

In the court martial Choudary faced three charges. One was accepting money and the gold chain, which fell under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Choudary confidently said:

Choudary: They are unable to prove it. Simple reason, there has to be a motive. There has to be a demand that I asked for money in exchange for a favour to be done. Whereas it is quite clear from the transcripts and also the evidence by Samuel that I did not ask for anything. I did not agree to help in any manner. There was no motive so they cannot level a corruption charge.

Madhu: What about not reporting the meeting to authorities?

Choudary: Not reporting the meeting is the only thing, which is there. For which they can’t hang me. There are a number of people whom they already ignored, for example, Ahluwalia, Satnam Singh, B.B. Sharma. All of them had not reported. So they were dealt with administratively by giving some displeasure or something like that. They can’t decide to do something more severe to me.

Madhu: How is your family coping with the fall out?

Choudary: I won’t say they have had any repercussions. When this thing came out into the open, my daughter was working for a firm. Her boss said, “Everybody has skeletons. Nothing to worry.” That’s the attitude of that gentleman to my daughter. She had no problems. Despite the stigma, my younger daughter got married in October. What everybody knows, as far as corruption prevailing in this country, in every department something is going on. I go to renew my driving license: for that I have to shell out money here and there because we are not willing to drive twenty kilometres and take twenty trips every time. So, okay, I gave Rs 200 to some clerk and got my license. It’s become part of our system. Everybody knows it is there. People who know me intimately, they know I am not a bad chap. If somebody gives me two crores, pass my case, I did not do it. Somebody offering me a house, I did not fall for it. It is just that at that moment, you don’t think if somebody is giving you something when you have said, “I cannot help you”. Despite that he just puts something in your hand, that is because he wants to film you and show you as a guilty person.
